Free smoke alarms available
Allegheny County Health Department is offering free smoke
alarms, with priority given to residents in 17 communities whose fire rates are
above the countywide average.
Funding for the program is provided by the state Department of Health. Priority areas locally include Braddock, Duquesne, Forward Township, Homestead, McKeesport, North Braddock, Versailles and Wilkinsburg.
Also on the priority list are Collier Township, Etna and Pittsburgh
neighborhoods of Allentown, Beltzhoover, Carrick, Hazelwood, Homewood, Lincoln
Lemington and Perry South.
The smoke alarms come with free installation and a fire safety presentation. To
